Ever wondered what all those lines on your palms mean? Palm reading, palmistry, or chiromancy is an ancient art of fortune-telling, with the objective of evaluating a person’s nature, character, past, and future through lines and mounts on the palm.
Many believe that the lines on our palms tell the stories of all small and large events in our lives – past, present, and future. These lines are also constantly forming, changing, and disappearing, and have fascinated mankind for ages. Palm reading, or palmistry, is a fascinating science of deciphering and interpreting the meaning of these lines on the palms.
Apart from the lines, there are various mounts on the thenars. Apart from these, the texture of the palm, color, flexibility, shape, and size of the fingers and nails are also taken into consideration for a complete reading.
This is the first question asked by people. Traditional palmistry suggests that, the left hand of women and the right hand of men are to be seen. However, the scientific approach differs greatly in its ideas. This approach says that, it is important to see both the hands of a person. It is believed that, the left hand is a doorway to the natural personality of a person, whereas, the right shows what he has done with his personality and talents. However, this is opposite for left-handed people.
Hand Aspects to Be Analyzed in Tandem for a Complete Reading
The texture of the hand is a key to decode the persona of an individual. This has to be observed for both, the back and front of the hand or palm. A soft-textured hand shows sensitivity and refinement. A coarse-textured hand will depict a coarse nature. Calluses will show that the person is either a hardworking person or has a job where he has to work a lot with his hands.
The flexibility of the hand shows how adjustable a person is. The more flexible the hand, the more adjusting his nature is. On the contrary, if the hand is stiff, the person has a rigid personality. People whose fingers can be very easily bent back (90 degrees to the palm) are pushovers.
This is also an important aspect to consider in palm reading. The shape of the nails also gives us an insight into the personality traits of a person. Long nails which taper at the tips show creativity, while square nails show orderliness.
The color of the hands shows the general condition of blood and other circulation in the person’s body. A pinkish hand, therefore, boasts of a healthy individual. Yellow denotes excessive bile production. A bluish tinge indicates a circulation problem.
It is important to note the texture, color, and firmness of these mounts when examining the hand for astrological purposes.
Mount of Jupiter: Is placed under the index finger. It denotes ambition, leadership, religion, and love of nature.
Mount of Saturn: Is under the middle finger. It indicates soberness, wisdom, sadness, and balance.
Mount of Apollo: Is situated under the ring finger. It signifies brilliance, artistic inclinations, happiness, and success.
Mount of Mercury: Is seen under the little finger. It denotes aptitude for industry, business, and shrewdness.
Mount of Venus it is under the thumb, and represents love, sympathy, passion, and affinity for music.
Mount of Moon: Is placed on the edge of the hand, below the base of the Mount of Mercury. It shows imagination, mysticism, coldness, and selfishness.
Plain of Mars: It is the center of the palm of the hand. It represents courage, bravery, and aggression.
Reading the Lines
The first prominent horizontal line just below our fingers is the heart line. This line signifies the emotionality of the person, along with information relating to the heart. A longer line suggests that the person is dependent on his partner, whereas, a shorter line is indicative of a person who is self-assured. A straight line shows normal or intense relationships, while a broken or forked line indicates trouble in relationships.
The head line is just below the heart line. This line shows the mental or intellectual nature of the person, along with mental issues he may be afflicted by. A deep and straight line shows that the person is ambitious, while an absent line suggests that the person is lazy. A forked head line indicates frequent changes in career.
The life line is the third prominent line, and follows a downward curving path on our hand. This shows the nature and length of a person’s life. A deep, long line suggests a healthy and long life. However, this does not mean that a short line is only indicative of a short life. A broken line stands for losses and misery.
The fate line crosses the palm and begins near the end of the life line, and ends somewhere near or on the Mount of Saturn. A deep line signifies inheritance, whereas, a broken or forked line shows conflict and struggle. If the line is absent, the person lives a pre-planned or an average life.
The marriage line(s) are present on the Mount of Mercury, and determine relationships and marriage(s). The number of lines signify the number of major relationships in life. A forked marriage line suggests that the person may experience a divorce.
The Line of Apollo begins from the upper part of the Mount of Moon and ends on the Mount of Apollo. This line determines the brilliance of the person in his/her sphere of life.
The Line of mercury or Health Line begins on the Plain of Mars and ends on the Mount of Mercury. This line speaks volumes about the health of a person. A strong or bold health line indicates health issues in the life of the person, whereas, the absence of it indicates no major health issues.
Ideally, all the lines and mounts must be considered together, along with other aspects of the hand, in order to form a complete analysis of the person’s personality and future. There are other things that one needs to know in order to gain a clearer picture of an individual’s life. This is by no means a comprehensive analysis of all the lines and mounts on the hand.
It is believed that the lines change, grow, and disappear as and when their relevance and importance has come and gone. Sometimes, this happens in the course of a single day. There are some who say that, the lines on our palms are actually the physical reflection of all that we think – consciously and subconsciously – everyday. They are basically the physical image of how we perceive our past, present, and future, both, knowingly and unknowingly. This goes on to show that the ‘future’ and ‘destiny’ of a person does change and evolve as per the alterations in their perceptions. Lastly, it should be noted that, palm reading and other occult sciences are meant only for information purposes. The accuracy of any reading depends heavily on the skill, knowledge, and command of the reader. Palmistry is a course of deep study, and involves many years of study and practice.
