Hair Coloring Lunar Calendar
The traditional best days to colour or dye your hair by the Moon. Colour on the waxing Moon and the right sign so the dye takes deeply, looks rich and lasts longer.
How to time hair colouring by the Moon
Lunar tradition holds that hair absorbs dye best as the Moon grows. On the waxing Moon the body takes things in readily, so colour soaks in, looks vivid and holds; on the waning Moon it releases, and colour fades faster.
Waxing vs. waning Moon
- Waxing Moon (growing): The prime window — hair absorbs dye deeply, colour looks rich and stays vivid for longer.
- Waning Moon (shrinking): Hair absorbs poorly now — colour takes unevenly and washes out faster. Wait for the waxing Moon.
Two signs to avoid in any phase: Cancer and Pisces, where colour can look patchy and fade. Eclipse windows are also best skipped.
The Moon's sign — the deciding factor
On a waxing Moon, the sign decides how rich and lasting the colour is:
Tips for rich, lasting colour
- Best of all: a waxing Moon in Virgo (even, true tone) or Leo (glossy and vivid).
- Virgo is the prime sign for chemical work — colour, perms and straightening.
- Avoid Cancer and Pisces, where colour fades fast and can look dull or patchy.
